Winter Ball

Lace Party Dress: Jill Stuart for Bloomingdales, Shoes: BCBG Paris, Earrings: J. Crew, Bracelet: Alfani (Macy's)

The night I have been waiting for since I bought this dress 2 weeks ago finally arrived! Friday was my school's winter Semi-Formal. This was probably the first time that the exact outfit I planned in my head was the one I ended up wearing. I even bought the exact pair of shoes I'd envisioned (this never happens)!

The theme for the dance was Old Hollywood. I wanted to my look to evoke old Hollywood glamour; that's why I chose a lace dress, red lips (Flirt! High Wattage from Kohl's- extremely long lasting) and large chandelier earrings, but I also toughened up my look with with zippered and buckled cutout leather booties.

This dress is amazing; it is so flirty and fun to dance in. The earrings are quite heavy and I was afraid that dancing in them wouldn't be a good idea, but I kept them on all night and had no problems. It was a great night for fun and fashion!

A Vintage Valentine

Vintage Lace Dress, Belt: Morgan McFeeters, Leggings: C9 By Champion, Booties: Tahari , Bracelets: Alfani and Charter Club (Macy's)

I recently rediscovered this lace dress my mom thrifted for the dress-up party I had when I turned 7. She was actually impressed when she saw me wearing it the other day. It has this really cool draping on the hips and is in good condition. I modernized it with leggings, booties, and a patent belt that I snagged off one of my sundresses. I hope you're having a happy Valentine's day!

RIP: The Fashion World Mourns the Loss of McQueen

It is a sad day for the fashion industry who mourns the loss of one of its most creative and avant guard designers, Alexander McQueen. According to the Associated Press, McQueen was found in his home today, dead at the age of 40. Tim Blanks's post on Style.com's Style File Blog claims that the designer took his own life.

McQueen's designs were always incredibly creative and innovative as well as sexy and impeccably well tailored. His last collection which featured the infamous "armadillo heels" was the talk of the fashion set, because of it's combination of conceptual clothing and technology. His shows were extravagant spectacles and were much anticipated during Paris Fashion Week. It is so sad that the world has lost such a singular voice in fashion. At least it had the chance to witness his talent for a time, how ever short it was. If you are unfamiliar with the genius of McQueen's collections click here.

Snow and Sobering Thoughts

Since tomorrow's a snow day for me, tonight was the perfect time to catch up on some fashion news. I read 2 incredibly informative and interesting blog posts, one on Altamira about the a model's style and the press she receives and the impact of these factors on her bookings. I also read the "Behind the Scenes: The Product Specialist" post on Cathy Horyn's On the Runway blog. It is a very sobering account of the shift of American Fashion production from 7th Ave. to Asia as well as the de-emphasizeing (I might have just made up this word) of the technique of pattern and garment construction and quality of fit, and the emphasizing of a garment's marketability and sales. This post was eye opening and I encourage you to read it if you get the chance. For those of you who are more visually stimulated, look up to see 2 Givenchy Pre-Fall 2010 looks (from Style.com). It seems that we will soon be seeing a minimalist look from Tisci and I can't wait, everything that man does is genius. I will try to get some good snow pics for you tomorrow, but for now you'll have to be content to stare at this one from December!

We've Got the Vision, Now Let's Have Some Fun

Cropped Swing Jacket: Elle (from Kohl's), Black T-Shirt: Wear Wicked, Black Tank Top: Blue Chic (from Charolette Russe), Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters, Boots: Steve Madden, Stretch Bracelet: Gift from a friend, Black Leather Bag: BCBGirls

Sorry for all the mirror pics lately, I've been pretty lazy/busy. This silvery/grey swing jacket from Kohl's is actually of really good quality. The fabric is of nice weight and the pattern has a very nice texture to it. It is one of those affordable pieces that I really love. I picked up a very cute and flirty Jill Stuart lace dress from Bloomingdale's today. It was featured in the December/January issue of Teen Vogue and I can't wait to wear it to my school's upcoming semi-formal. I'll post pictures of it in a few weeks.

Can you believe Fashion Week is almost upon us? The last few weeks have gone by so quickly. I am ready for Spring and the return of floral prints, but I'm also looking forward to what we'll be wearing next winter. Not to get to far ahead of myself, I've posted with some pictures that remind me of the look I sported today. These are from one of my favorite spring 2010 collections: Prada.

Sparkle and Shine

I really should be doing homework right now, but I thought it was imortant to draw attention to Taylor Swift's penchant for wearing sparkely dresses and gowns to award shows.
