100

I cannot believe that this is my 100th post! A little over a year ago I began writing this blog and I never thought anyone would read it. Although I can't say that I have even close to the number of hits some other blogs get or a huge amount of followers, I have learned that there is a select group of people interested in what I have to say about fashion, art, and travel and this gives me so much joy. I feel that I have grown as a blogger and as a fashion enthusiast and I have big plans that I hope to implement soon to improve the overall quality and content of the Mainstream Misfit. I plan to take my camera with me to restaurants, to post more music, to use better adjectives to describe collections (I think I killed the words, "amazing," "beautiful," "comfy," and "awesome"), and stage better photo shoots. I also have a special surprise in the works to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of Mainstream Misfit that occurred on June 6, 2010. I can't wait to show it to you when it's finished! For now I thought it would be a good idea to make a collage that exemplifies my personal style and leave you with a photo I took to commemorate National Rose Month. Just so you know, I appreciate any input you can give, so please, if you like (or dislike) anything I have on the blog or want me to blog about a particular thing just leave a comment (I honestly get so excited when people do)!

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful

Chanel Resort 2011

Emilio Pucci Resort 2011

I've returned from a week at the beach to tell you about all the great choices available for Resort season.  There is nothing better for the summer than light, fun, clothing that is packable, printed, and versatile and designers have certainly provided that this year.  For the next couple of days I'll be posting some of my favorite looks from the season. Today's theme is light and airy, easy, breezy, and beautiful.

Running Free

Last night I was thinking about how much I love running and how I need to start running on a regular basis again if I ever want to look good in a bikini. Of course, since I am lazy and have absolutely no motivation even though it was only 70 degrees out and perfect running weather, I made a collage of the running gear I would like to own instead of actually hitting the trail. Obviously you should look up to me as the model of health and a passionate champion of fitness. Anyway, I have recently become obsessed with the Nike LunarGlide+ running shoes which I read about in Fitness Magazine. They come in so many cool colors and I am convinced that I don't need quite as much arch support as my trusty Brooks Adrenalines give me. These sneakers would be perfect for the stylish runner so I will try to buy myself a pair soon and maybe acquire a little motivation for some serious training. But other than those shoes, I find many of these products perfect for looking cute and staying comfy while you run your route or conquer the stair-master at the gym (though I'm not quite sold on the running skirt yet even if I did put a picture of one in this collage). Isn't that Tory Burch Duffle cute?! I'd love to have one of those too! But I digress, I plan to go running tomorrow morning so I'll let you know how it goes!

Gray Matter

In the summer, neutral colors can be just as important as the bright vibrant prints that we often wear. When I was flipping through a recent issue of LUCKY Magazine I came across a little piece about gray as a great summer neutral. Now, gray is actually one of my favorite colors to wear and you've seen how many times I've wore gray Ts, sweaters, accessories, jeans, skirts, shoes, jackets, and tank tops on the blog so you know that I had to post about it. But just because it's summer doesn't mean that you need to put your gray away. The many shades of this color make it a great alternative to other neutrals like brown, tan, white or black and it looks striking combined with practically any color. Here are some of my favorite gray pieces for summer.

Pressing On

Dress and Cami: Elle (Kohl's), Shoes: Calvin Klein, Chalcedony Earrings and Jade/Freshwater Pearl Bracelet: Type 0(-)

Dress: J. Crew, Shoes: Alfani (Macy's), Pearl Necklace and Pearl Earrings: Gifts, Wristlet: Coach

This was a very busy weekend!  Of course, because I was in such a rush to get ready, (or because I was waiting for people to get ready and therefore had no one to photograph me-i don't have a huge tripod either so no timer pics) I didn't have time to take a proper photo in the 1st outfit. So excuse the cropped side photo.  But I did squeeze in these other 2 photos in this J. Crew cotton dress that is good for wearing on 90 degree days (in case you find yourself needing a dress for an event in the dog days of summer).  I also really liked these cork platform peep-toe slingbacks even though they killed my feet.  I find platforms to be superior to shoes like the ones I wore in the 1st photo because they are so much sturdier so you're not wobbling all over the place like a little kid on a humungous bike (wow, what a simile).  The Elle dress has quickly become a favorite of mine and I've found that Kohl's is really vamping up it's contemporary collections with some cute stuff.  This dress isn't available at the Kohl's near my house anymore but there is a cute zippered tank top in the same print that I really like. Hope your weekend was great!

P.S. It's summer.

I wish I could sit in your garden again

Beaded Dress: Eci New York, Satin Slingbacks: Mootsies Tootsies, Onyx Earrings: Heigh Ho Silver, Sunglasses: Cynthia Rowley

I'm sure at this point you were wondering what had happened to me; did I come back from my hiatus only to post twice and then fall off the face of the earth?  No silly! I have spent the last few weeks going on shopping trips that have made me actually dislike shopping somewhat.  I know, impossible right?  After visiting no less than 11 stores on at least 5 days and multiple locations of some stores, I was finally able to find a suitable dress for graduation.  I was frustrated (and somewhat depressed) beyond belief after going home empty handed time after time.  About 2 weeks ago though, I did manage to stumble upon this dress at Macy's.  The Gucci S/S 2010 like print and color story caught my eye and the beading, neckline, and overall style of the dress give even me some curves, plus the fabric is super comfy.  How could I say no?  They beautiful weather, blooming flowers, and my new haircut necessitated a backyard photo session which my mom so nicely agreed to shoot.
