And These Here Are My Desires

1. Carrot Cake at the Springfield Diner, 2&3. Zara Shirt, William Rast for Target Skinny Cargo Pants, Nine West Vintage America Collection Boots
So another weekend has past and I remain here, eating away.  Yes, it is another food photo but the carrot cake I enjoyed at the newly opened Springfield Diner was so good, I just had to tell you about it!  More importantly, I ate it and was still able to fit into my new William Rast for Target cargo pants.  I was hoping to score a new pair of William Rast skinny jeans when I walked into Target the other day, but as only boot-cuts were available in my size I grabbed this pair olive green awesomeness.  I must say I was looking for a pair of pants like this for a while and they fit perfectly for the price, plus they look great with the suede Peroxy boots I received for Christmas.  I flipped the flaps of the boots up at the suggestion of my mother to complete the look.  All of these items are so versatile.  This white blouse is definitely the best purchase I have ever made.  A classic white shirt is an essential in any woman's closet, but the collar, bib front, mother-of-peal buttons, and boyfriend sizing make me love this one even more.  I have worn it with silk and brocade mini skirts, black wool trousers, and jeans.  I goes well with everything.  It is probably my favorite shirt and these boots are on their way to becoming my favorite shoes.  They are slightly distressed at the toe and heel and I've worn them with lace tank-tops and thermal henleys.  Here's to wear-with-everything pieces!

Free to Roam, Make a Home Out of Everywhere I've Been

Sweater: J. Crew, Pants: Zara, Shoes: Tahari, Cami: Kohls
So, I bet you've been wondering, "what will Caroline wear today?"  I know I wonder this everyday (usually when I wake up or in the early morning hours if I am just climbing into bed).  I will now return posting photos of my outfits, not only because of my vanity, but also because I received a camera for Christmas and I haven't documented a single look since forever.  I believe this outfit is indicative of the influence New York City had on me, as I never wore an all-black outfit when I lived in Philly.

In other news, if you a feeling bored on this Thursday afternoon, you could always venture out to your nearest art museum (although if you are reading this now, you probably don't have time to make it before the museum closes).  I went to the Met a couple weeks ago and found that the Damien Hirst shark had been replaced the sculpture seen below.  Here are some photos of some other pieces I had not seen before and as well as familiar sights:

1.  Me, Central Park, & Sculpture, 2. & 3. Modern Art Pieces in the 2nd Floor Modern Art Galleries,
4. Petrie Court, 5. The Met
I also viewed the John Baldessari: Pure Beauty exhibit and the Miro: The Dutch Interiors exhibit.  Both are will make you think and contribute to a great afternoon.

Gold Gardens

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
Shirt: Loomstate, Tank: American Eagle, Shorts: American Eagle, Sandals: Franco Starto, Bag: Juicy Couture

The weather in NYC has been just beautiful the past few days.  Perfect days have included wandering around the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and just sitting in Bryant Park.  Add some fresh fruit, rosemary and lemon sorbet from the farmer's market and some good friends and you've got the best afternoons of your life.

A Week in the Life

1. Jean Jacket: Hydraulic, Shirt: Blue Camel, Shorts: Loomstate for Target, Sandals: Sam Edelman, Bag: Hype, Earrings: A shop in Toledo Spain
2. Vibrant flowers in Rittenhouse Square Farmer's Market
3. Baguettes in Rittenhouse Square Farmer's Market
4. Ring: A New Creation
5. Steaz and A New Creation Ring from Lansdowne Farmer's Market
It's been a while since I've shown you anything I have been wearing lately because to be honest with you if I did post a photo of me in ripped short shorts and a tank top you really wouldn't care would you?  Yes, I must admit that I have dropped the ball style-wise this summer and I really don't like any of my attempts to pick it up (this attempt included).   But hey, that's what yesterday, a couple days in the last 2 weeks, and possibly another this next week are for.  Hopefully by the time I reach the Big Apple and fall starts rearing its impeccably good looking head I will be back to my usual self style wise.  Until then you can amuse yourself by looking at these memories of a day of shopping in Philly.  After a successful stop at Zara I took a stroll to the farmer's market in Rittenhouse Square where vibrant fresh flowers and flour of fresh baguettes caught my eye.  Last week I scored a lovely freshwater pearl cluster ring by Liz Steele-Coats's A New Creation and a delicious Steaz drink at the Lansdowne farmer's market.  Nothing beats a sunny Saturday to shop when the temp's just right.

The Shell Spell

White Tank Top: Target, Blue Tank Top: American Eagle Outfitters, Skirt: Gap, Sandals: Franco Sarto, Necklace: Banana Republic, Bag: Coach

I wore this outfit on the 4th of July on the last day of my vacation in Orlando.  It was probably the most humid day of our stay but I felt (or at least looked) somewhat cool in my cotton clothes and leather sandals.  The mother-of-pearl shell necklace I was wearing is one of my summer staples.  I bought it at the Banana Republic in Rockefeller Center in New York City when I was there celebrating my sweet sixteen and it's been a favorite ever since!  The other small shell, starfish, and coral charms are detachable.  It goes really well with many of the other summer pieces in my wardrobe.

Pressing On

Dress and Cami: Elle (Kohl's), Shoes: Calvin Klein, Chalcedony Earrings and Jade/Freshwater Pearl Bracelet: Type 0(-)

Dress: J. Crew, Shoes: Alfani (Macy's), Pearl Necklace and Pearl Earrings: Gifts, Wristlet: Coach

This was a very busy weekend!  Of course, because I was in such a rush to get ready, (or because I was waiting for people to get ready and therefore had no one to photograph me-i don't have a huge tripod either so no timer pics) I didn't have time to take a proper photo in the 1st outfit. So excuse the cropped side photo.  But I did squeeze in these other 2 photos in this J. Crew cotton dress that is good for wearing on 90 degree days (in case you find yourself needing a dress for an event in the dog days of summer).  I also really liked these cork platform peep-toe slingbacks even though they killed my feet.  I find platforms to be superior to shoes like the ones I wore in the 1st photo because they are so much sturdier so you're not wobbling all over the place like a little kid on a humungous bike (wow, what a simile).  The Elle dress has quickly become a favorite of mine and I've found that Kohl's is really vamping up it's contemporary collections with some cute stuff.  This dress isn't available at the Kohl's near my house anymore but there is a cute zippered tank top in the same print that I really like. Hope your weekend was great!

P.S. It's summer.

I wish I could sit in your garden again

Beaded Dress: Eci New York, Satin Slingbacks: Mootsies Tootsies, Onyx Earrings: Heigh Ho Silver, Sunglasses: Cynthia Rowley

I'm sure at this point you were wondering what had happened to me; did I come back from my hiatus only to post twice and then fall off the face of the earth?  No silly! I have spent the last few weeks going on shopping trips that have made me actually dislike shopping somewhat.  I know, impossible right?  After visiting no less than 11 stores on at least 5 days and multiple locations of some stores, I was finally able to find a suitable dress for graduation.  I was frustrated (and somewhat depressed) beyond belief after going home empty handed time after time.  About 2 weeks ago though, I did manage to stumble upon this dress at Macy's.  The Gucci S/S 2010 like print and color story caught my eye and the beading, neckline, and overall style of the dress give even me some curves, plus the fabric is super comfy.  How could I say no?  They beautiful weather, blooming flowers, and my new haircut necessitated a backyard photo session which my mom so nicely agreed to shoot.

Emerald City

Shirt: Apt. 9 (Kohl's), Skirt: Gap, Sandals: Sam Edelman, Earrings: J. Crew, Belt: No brand

I recently unearthed this skirt from the deep recesses of my closet.  I bought it a while ago but last night was the first time I ever wore it; I have no idea why it took me so long to.  Sorry about the poor quality of the photos, I was using a different camera than I normally do. Gotta go type up a final exam essay, hopefully that's not what you have do right now!

My mom was being sneaky with the camera and took a candid.

Fluorescent Florals

Ruffle Tank Top: J. Crew, Ribbed Tank Top: American Eagle Outfitters, Skirt: Top Shop, Alligator Print Gladiator Sandals: Sam Edelman, Belt: Vintage Anne Klein, Sunglasses: Cynthia Rowley

Nothing like wearing some fun florals on a beautifully sunny Sunday.

I'm bAAAck!

Top: BCBGirls, Cami: Elle (Kohl's), Pants: Proenza Schouler for Target, Sneakers: Keds, Cuff: Hi Ho Silver

Well hopefully I haven't lost my entire reader base by taking a break from blogging, but if you're still here you can take a look at what I wore to school on Friday (sorry for the blurry photo).  This batwing shirt is one of my favorite tops, but I find it a bit difficult to wear at times.  There are only a few things I can wear it with, as the sleeves are so exaggerated.  I bought these pants a while ago and they are very comfy.  They have a slight flair at the bottom.  I rolled them to adapt to the Spring weather.  Also, they have a satin tuxedo stripe down each leg which you can't see in the photo.  I promise to keep you updated on my outfits regularly again, so don't forget to check back!

Great song for chillin out on a Sunday afternoon:

Dance Dance

Prom was on Friday night.  I could not have asked for more perfect weather.  Furthermore, I had the good fortune to wear this BCBG Max Azria silk and satin gown, in my absolute favorite color with some sparkly earrings from Skirt and my the best pair of croco-embossed evening slides by Calvin Klein.  I must say, finding this dress was noting short of a miracle.  I walked into the BCBG boutique and walked out a short time later with a gown that fit well, was in my favorite color, and was on sale.  This was the only gown I tried on this year and I only went prom dress shopping that one time.

What I love about this gown and my gown from last year are the subtle design details.  I like to focus on the construction of the gown, when I choose what to wear.  The pleating on this gown is beautiful and the silk stripe down the front has a lengthening effect.  Another thing I loved about it was that it came with straps, which I attached before hitting the dance floor.  I was so nice to dance and not worry about my dress falling down.  I finished off the look with a slightly messy up-do and wore Maybelline Stiletto  liquid eyeliner with subtle pink Lancome shadow and Honey nude lipstick by Kohl's brand Flirt.

Promonition

Prom is fast approaching.  I can't wait to dress up and see what my other friends will be wearing.  Pre-prom is such a stressful time, there is so much to prepare for and choosing the right dress is sometimes very difficult.  I have had the good fortune to have only tried on 3 dresses for both of my school's proms.  I wore this Nicole Miller Collection Crepe Du Chine Gown last year.  As soon as I put it on, I know it was the one.  I tried on one more after that just because, but it didn't even compare.  I wore my J. Crew pearl necklace, which has now become one of my signature jewelry pieces, and the Guess by Marciano heels you saw in my New Year's post.  Although I am not sure I love this year's gown as much as last year's, I can't wait to show it to you!

Weekend Yeah!! Part II

Dress: BCBG Paris, Shoes: Villager a Liz Claiborne Company, Earrings: Kenneth Cole New York, Bracelet: Heigh Ho Silver

I wore this outfit to a dinner last Sunday.  I was a bit overdressed but I bought this dress a while ago and really wanted to wear it since the weather was just perfect for it.  I love the way the fabric shimmers and how the skirt flows and flares with each step.

Weekend Yeah!!

Sweater: Free People, Shirt: Mossimo Target, Scarf: Collection Eighteen, Shorts: J. Crew, Shoes: Made by Elves, Sunglasses: Cynthia Rowley, Earrings: Betsey Johnson

I wish I was one of those fast bloggers who totes around her MacBook where ever she goes with one of those mobile broadband thingies and uploads photos to her blog the minute after they are taken. Unfortunately for you I am not one of those people. I wore this on Saturday. I was in Jersey City at the time these were taken. It was a nice day. It was the first time I've worn shorts and tights since 1st grade. I wore the greatest sweater I have ever owned. I am exhausted and have a math test to study for. Enjoy.

And you've left me shimmering

Top: Simply Vera Vera Wang, Leggings: Old Navy, Booties: BCBG Paris, Necklace: Gift

Decided to take it easy with my outfit this Easter after the skirt I was planning on wearing to church was wayy tooo short. This shirt is unbelievably soft. Every time I go to Kohl's I always want to get some of the Simply Vera merchandise but I usually don't. All of the pieces I like are never in my size when I go and what I do find fits me kind of awkwardly. But I haven't given up hope since they now offer petites. I love all of the abstract prints; they are so nice for spring.

The Formerly Title-less Post!

Blazer: Proenza Schouler for Target, Yellow Tank Top: Loomstate, White Tank Top: Mossimo Target, Jeans: Levi's, Shoes: Payless, Necklace: J. Crew, Earrings: Gift
The weather here is so rainy and dreary. I tried to pick my spirits up by wearing this outfit to a musical my friend was performing in last night. It was amazingly and so funny. One of my friends was wondering when I was going to wear these jeans again and I wore them the day after she was thinking about them. I love them so much.

When people think of art, the sometimes fail to think of the artistic qualities of furniture or fabric. This is a photo I took at the Met in the mirror of a cool vanity with what I believe to be a Paul Poiret textile in the back, though I'm not too sure I read that correctly. I love how the mirror is held up by two silver peacocks. Got to go, have a great weekend, even if you're stuck in the rain.
