Can't get you out of my head

Last weekend, when I was imagining myself in outfits I don't own (is this kind of pathetic? I don't know), I thought it would be cool to pair a lace T-shirt with a pair of ripped shorts and gladiator sandals.  Since then all I can think of is whether or not this outfit will look as good on me as it does in my mind.  All of these items can be easily procured in one trip to the mall.  The only problem is which lace shirt should I buy, the floral one (pictured 1st) or the El Salvador style? Decisions, decisions-- you can help me out though, comment and tell me which one you like better.  Then I'll need to pick out some cool undergarments to wear with it.  These shorts are pretty cute; they have little sequins stitched into the rips  If I do actually get around to buying all this stuff, I post some pics and we'll see how it looks!

PS. I think that this is a good song to kick off the weekend!

Girls in Their Summer Clothes

Photos: wwd.com, urbanoutfitters,.com, uo via fashionupdate.wordpress.com, jcrew.com

I need to go shopping really, really badly.  I cannot emphasize this enough.  I've become a bit bored with my current look and the street style photos from the Coachella Music and Arts Festival have inspired me to change it up a little bit.  I'm planning on going shopping on Saturday, for dresses mostly, but if I have the chance to snag some more boho pieces I'm all for it.  I love how free and comfortable everything looks, breezy and perfect for the summer months--or this weekend for that matter since its going to be around 85 degrees in my area!

Spring Shopping

Louis Vuitton S/S 10

Top Shop

I am reeeaally craving a new handbag for spring, one in a different color and style than those already in my  closet.   Drawstring cross-body pouches seem to be the bags of the moment and who better than Top Shop to supply us with affordable styles in cool colored leather.

Dance Dance

Prom was on Friday night.  I could not have asked for more perfect weather.  Furthermore, I had the good fortune to wear this BCBG Max Azria silk and satin gown, in my absolute favorite color with some sparkly earrings from Skirt and my the best pair of croco-embossed evening slides by Calvin Klein.  I must say, finding this dress was noting short of a miracle.  I walked into the BCBG boutique and walked out a short time later with a gown that fit well, was in my favorite color, and was on sale.  This was the only gown I tried on this year and I only went prom dress shopping that one time.

What I love about this gown and my gown from last year are the subtle design details.  I like to focus on the construction of the gown, when I choose what to wear.  The pleating on this gown is beautiful and the silk stripe down the front has a lengthening effect.  Another thing I loved about it was that it came with straps, which I attached before hitting the dance floor.  I was so nice to dance and not worry about my dress falling down.  I finished off the look with a slightly messy up-do and wore Maybelline Stiletto  liquid eyeliner with subtle pink Lancome shadow and Honey nude lipstick by Kohl's brand Flirt.

Promonition

Prom is fast approaching.  I can't wait to dress up and see what my other friends will be wearing.  Pre-prom is such a stressful time, there is so much to prepare for and choosing the right dress is sometimes very difficult.  I have had the good fortune to have only tried on 3 dresses for both of my school's proms.  I wore this Nicole Miller Collection Crepe Du Chine Gown last year.  As soon as I put it on, I know it was the one.  I tried on one more after that just because, but it didn't even compare.  I wore my J. Crew pearl necklace, which has now become one of my signature jewelry pieces, and the Guess by Marciano heels you saw in my New Year's post.  Although I am not sure I love this year's gown as much as last year's, I can't wait to show it to you!

Weekend Yeah!! Part II

Dress: BCBG Paris, Shoes: Villager a Liz Claiborne Company, Earrings: Kenneth Cole New York, Bracelet: Heigh Ho Silver

I wore this outfit to a dinner last Sunday.  I was a bit overdressed but I bought this dress a while ago and really wanted to wear it since the weather was just perfect for it.  I love the way the fabric shimmers and how the skirt flows and flares with each step.

Weekend Yeah!!

Sweater: Free People, Shirt: Mossimo Target, Scarf: Collection Eighteen, Shorts: J. Crew, Shoes: Made by Elves, Sunglasses: Cynthia Rowley, Earrings: Betsey Johnson

I wish I was one of those fast bloggers who totes around her MacBook where ever she goes with one of those mobile broadband thingies and uploads photos to her blog the minute after they are taken. Unfortunately for you I am not one of those people. I wore this on Saturday. I was in Jersey City at the time these were taken. It was a nice day. It was the first time I've worn shorts and tights since 1st grade. I wore the greatest sweater I have ever owned. I am exhausted and have a math test to study for. Enjoy.

Flower Power

The Fall Collections were great but do we really want to be thinking about winter right now?? I know I don't and the 80 degree weather that had me running around town in shorts, and drinking iced coffee actually made me think it was summer already. On one of those days I snapped some Spring floral photos that inspired this post which includes looks from Erdem, Dries Van Noten, and Oscar de la Renta Spring/Summer 2010.

And for more eco-conscious floral fun at affordable prices check out H&M's Garden Collection! They have some really great pieces made from recycled materials that I REALLY want to buy.

Arte por el Arte

This sculpture and the silver tree I photographed for A Tree Grows Part II are both located in the sculpture garden of the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. If you figured out that the the other trees were not growing in Brooklyn, I'll tell you where they were growing. The 1st photo was taken from the backseat of the family van when we were leaving Jones Beach in Long Island NY, the 2nd photo was taken while riding shotgun on my way back from Ithaca College in Ithaca NY where there is no shortage of beautiful trees in Fall, Numbha 3 is inside a canopy covered walkway in Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton NJ, the one underneath was taken during the BLizzard of 2010, and the final photo is of two trees on the roof of a building across the street from the Met on 5th Ave NYC (click to enlarge the photo and look at the architectural details). So these photos basically document a year in my life through trees. cool.

And you've left me shimmering

Top: Simply Vera Vera Wang, Leggings: Old Navy, Booties: BCBG Paris, Necklace: Gift

Decided to take it easy with my outfit this Easter after the skirt I was planning on wearing to church was wayy tooo short. This shirt is unbelievably soft. Every time I go to Kohl's I always want to get some of the Simply Vera merchandise but I usually don't. All of the pieces I like are never in my size when I go and what I do find fits me kind of awkwardly. But I haven't given up hope since they now offer petites. I love all of the abstract prints; they are so nice for spring.

Happy Easter!

I think this look from Givenchy Men's 2010 is appropriate for today. I hope all the Christian readers are wearing their Easter best!
